Fr. George Debrincat

Fr. George Debrincat was born on 19th February  1934 in Gozo.  He attended Sacred Heart Seminary and was ordained a priest by Bishop Joseph Pace at the Assumption of Our Lady Cathedral in Gozo on April 6th 1957.  He celebrated his first solemn High Mass at St George’s Parish on May 12th 1957, the same church where he was baptised, confirmed and received First Holy Communion. He started his pastoral work as an Associate Pastor at St George’s parish Victoria.  On August 17th 1962 Fr. George emigrated to the United States, to minister to the people in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in California: serving various parishes as Associate Pastor.  He also worked in the Los Angeles Matrimonial Tribunal for many years.  He became a United States citizen on January 31st 1969 and was incardinated in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1977.  On April 12th 1986 he was appointed Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Tujunga by Cardinal Roger Mahoney and remained in this position until retirement to Gozo in February 2000.  Fr. George still returns to California for a few months of the year, to Holy Redeemer Parish in Montrose California. His favourite quote is from Gospel of St. John 3: 16 “God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him may not die, but may have eternal life.”

Rev. Canon Joseph Borg

was born in Victoria, Gozo on March 16th 1933 and baptized two days later in St. George’s Parish Church, Victoria, Gozo. He attended the Junior Seminary for intermediate studies also in Victoria and then answered the call to the priesthood. He completed both the Philosophy and Theological Courses at the Sacred Heart Seminary. Ordained a priest on April 6th 1957 Bishop Pace assigned Fr. Borg as Associate Pastor for both parishes in Victoria. He was Rector of Holy Cross Confraternity that looked after the Good Friday procession at St. George’s Basilica. He also performed the duty of substitute chaplain in the government hospitals. In 1964 Fr. Borg emigrated to Canada where he was attached to the Toronto Archdiocese until 1969 when he joined the Canadian Armed Forces as Roman Catholic Chaplain with the rank of Captain. He served in different bases in Canada and in Cyprus with the Canadian Contingent of the UN. In 1979 he was promoted to the rank of Major. After almost twenty years of service in the Canadian Forces Fr. Borg returned to his native Parish of St. George’s in Gozo where he was installed as Canon in 1989.  In 19??  Bishop Cauchi assigned him as associate Chaplain for the English speaking Community in Gozo.
